Feral Exhibition
Kirsty Britten

Kirsty Britten’s practise is the pursuit of the elusiveness of image and memory, place and identity and of the familiar and foreign. Caught between a passion for expansive landscape, distant locations and the nostalgic comforts redolent in images of the domestic and mundane. Working from fragments of numerous photos Kirsty seeks to produce points of pictorial resolution and clarity of thought. However, through the continual search for the image, the endless building up and subtracting of paint, a fragile tension emerges between the tangible and the obscure. The canvas becomes a place of marks some of them secure and laden with the potential of communication whilst others disorientate and displace the very possibility of this endeavour.
