Feral Exhibition
Julie Pearce

My recent work focuses on the packed underground train as a metaphor for our increasingly fast-paced and at times pressurised society. Using map fragments to reference geographical details relevant to the work itself; combined with traditional materials like paint, charcoal and pencil, I build layered surfaces on canvas and on paper that attempt to mirror the complexities of the everyday. The alliance of the pictorial and the cartographical; enables the map to be adapted and used as a reflective tool to ‘chart’ the human landscape.
