Pats van Dam

Through her work; Pats van Dam questions social aspects and human behaviour. She has a particular interest in how media influences our perceptions of the world and how we should stand in it.

Pats van Dam’s paintings are mainly figurative; creating bold and often satirical large works in oil on canvas. Others are portraits of villains found in newspapers; concentrating on the sadness and vulnerability of their lives rather than the evil that is portrayed in the original photo. These works are mainly in black ink and watercolour on paper.

As a typical western over-consumer; Pats van Dam feels that most of her work is really self- portraiture, a reflection of her own shortcomings.
