Gold and Debris offers to the audience an experience of beauty and disgust deriving from the theme of human trace; the invisible made visible. The work creates a spectacle of human remanence found within a domestic carpet through use of colour and texture. It builds upon the idea of something banal transformed into something extraordinary, using gold to mask and purify the dirt beneath the gilded surface. It brings forth subtle forms of human trace which go unnoticed, using an artistic platform for which to be viewed.
